ACA Health Insurance – Special Treasure Coast Enrollment for Epilepsy Care
Treasure Coast – Monday May 2, 2022: Epilepsy Florida, a designated Affordable Care Act (ACA) Healthcare Navigator organization, continues with special enrollment events along the Treasure Coast for Floridians whose income level doesn’t exceed 150% of the federal poverty line. During the open enrollment period, Florida led the country in enrollment.
“For many low-income Floridians, it’s not too late to find a healthcare plan that works for them or their families,” said Karen Basha Egozi, CEO of Epilepsy Florida. “We have special enrollment events throughout our regions with free, multilingual help — and these plans have never been more popular, especially in Florida.”
Epilepsy Florida’s trained specialists, called Navigators, are available to assist families and other underserved communities gain access to health coverage options through the Marketplace, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). They can assist with enrollment applications and help consumers receive financial assistance through HealthCare.gov. Epilepsy Florida provides assistance to people with limited English proficiency in English, Spanish, and Creole languages. All Navigators have undergone federally regulated training, and their services are free and unbiased; Navigators also have no financial stake in the plans consumers select.
To be eligible for this SEP, an applicant’s household income cannot exceed 150% of the federal poverty level. For a single person enrolling in coverage for 2022 in the continental US, 150% of the poverty level amounts to an income of no more than $19,320. For a household of five, it’s $46,560. You have to be eligible for premium tax credits in order to take advantage of this SEP. So regardless of income, the SEP is not available to a person who is eligible for Medicaid, premium-free Medicare Part A, or an employer-sponsored health plan that provides minimum value and is considered affordable. This SEP is only available on-exchange, since premium tax credits aren’t available outside the exchange.
